How to Style Jhumka Earrings

A jhumka works when its proportion suits your face, your hair and the neckline you are wearing it with. Here is how we help customers choose at AN CREATION — the same three checks every time: face shape, occasion, and balance.

1. Match the jhumka to your face shape

Face shapeBest jhumkaWhy it works
RoundLong, tapered jhumkas or chandbali-jhumka hybridsVertical drop visually lengthens the face; avoid very wide, flat domes.
OvalAlmost any jhumka — classic dome, layered or pearl-dropBalanced proportions carry both compact and statement sizes.
SquareRounded, soft-dome jhumkas with a fluid tasselCurves soften a strong jawline better than sharp geometric shapes.
HeartWider-bottom jhumkas with a small stud topWeight at the base balances a narrower chin.
Long / oblongCompact, wide jhumkas or bali-jhumkasHorizontal width keeps the face from looking longer.

2. Choose by occasion

  • Wedding: Full-size kundan or meenakari jhumkas with pearl drops. Keep the neckline high or the necklace short so the earring stays the hero.
  • Festive & pooja: Mid-size gold-tone jhumkas with a light tassel — enough shine for photos, light enough to wear all day.
  • Office & daily: Small dome jhumkas or jhumka studs under 3 cm. Pair with an open neckline and tied-back hair.
  • College & casual: Lightweight oxidised or Korean-inspired mini jhumkas with kurtis, co-ords or even denim.

3. Balance hair, neckline and weight

  • Open hair hides small jhumkas — go one size up, or tuck hair behind the ear.
  • High necklines and dupattas free up space for larger jhumkas; deep necklines pair better with compact ones.
  • Heavy pairs are far more comfortable with an ear chain (saharas) taking part of the weight.
  • Metal tone should follow the rest of your jewellery — gold with kundan and silk, oxidised silver with cotton and handloom.

Caring for your jhumkas

Wear them last, after perfume and hairspray. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth after use and store each pair in a separate pouch so the tassels do not tangle. Keep them away from water and humidity to protect the plating.
